Emergency Remote Learning

As we will need to lean a lot technology as we attempt to connect, teach, learn and work there is much to be learned from the work of those who have experience working in “Distance”, “Remote”, of “Distribute” learning.  However, as outlined in his article This is not online or distance learning by A.J. Juliani we acknowledge that this is an extraordinary time, requiring unplanned shifts in our practice.    No one signed up for this, no one is entirely trained for this, no one was prepared for this but we are all in this together.

Office 365

Office 365 will be the district supported suite of tools going forward and was planned for implementation in the coming months.  However, with the current need for more robust online communication tools, the implementation of Office 365 for all School District 57 staff has been fast tracked.  With access to this powerful suite of online tools, Office 365 has real potential to support teaching, learning and collaboration for both students and staff alike.

Office 365 has been made available as a option for teachers wanting to utilize it at this time.  It is understood that for those new to this suite of tools there will be a learning curve and support and training opportunities will be evolving quickly.

A Office 365 support page has been set up on the SD57 Curriculum Hub with links to some of the extensive collection of online learning tools for Office 365 and will continue to be updated and grow as new supports become available.  In addition, live and recorded webinar sessions are being offered and School District 57 specific tutorials are being developed.

More Tools

While Office 365 is the supported suite of tools within SD57 we acknowledge that teachers use a wide variety of technology to reach their students.  It is important, however, to remember when we are going online with students and/or their information we have to keep in mind their privacy and safety.  Please refer to this useful planning resource for some important considerations before choosing an online tool.
